No and Yes, If you take amp "A" and amp "B" for example. Amp "A" is a no-name amp which puts out 400 Wrms. Amp "B" is a top of the line amp, which also puts out 400 Wrms. You won't be able to hear the difference, therefore it wouldn't matter if you used a rockford sub with a rockford amp. But, with that being said, some companies such as rockford,jl,kicker, tend to underrate their amps. So you might get a rockford amp that says 400 Wrms, but it actually puts out 50-100 more.
