headin out to cali july 1st

ahh i didnt know that.i thought it was far north because of snow..didnt know that much of CA got snow..
Elevation plays a big role in snow fall potential, not just longitude. Where I lived, on the coast, it rarely got to freezing, and it rarely got above 80-85 degrees... but 45 mins away it snowed in the winter (sometimes) and got well over 100 degrees in the summer.

it doesnt snow here, but go 20 miles north and it snows most of the winter up there. like you said, elevation plays a big role in it

Everything energy based is more expensive in Cali (thanks to local politics, pollution laws, etc). Gas is expensive, natural gas and/or propane is expensive, electricity is outrageously expensive, etc. When I lived in Florida, electricity was 7 cents a kilowatt/hr. Where I lived in Cali, it was 35 cents a kilowatt hour. When I bounced between cali and Michigan, gas in Michigan was just over a dollar a gallon (uhm... about 10 years ago), while Cali was $4-$5 a gallon. And of course, real estate in Cali is ridiculously expensive.

Caliornia tries to maintain too much independence from the rest of the country in terms of cost of living, cost of real estate, and energy costs. Its the biggest reason (imo) that Cali's economy sucks so bad. They cannot maintain that independence forever, Cali's economy is a bubble that will burst sooner or later.

Unless you are independently wealthy, or make like 6 figures minimum, I would probably advise you to not move there. California has seemingly tried to make their economy as such that outsiders trying to move there have some serious obstacles to overcome in order to make it a viable decision.

Its for this/these reasons that Im am completely against the rest of the country bailing out Cali when its economy does collapse.
