head unit wont turn off

randomly my head unit wont turn off now. it usually would turn off when i open my door. i pulled it out of the dash and disconnected the red wire and it shut off. what do i do to fix this?

The problem is probably with your car. When you open the door the RAP (retained accessory power) relay should disengage and shut off the radio and other electrical features like power windows and sunroof and your dome light should turn on. Does that all happen?
