I prefer single din flip out units because my Blazer only has 1.5 din.
With that said, I don't mind having quite a large hideaway module.
Here are the features I wish I could find in the same place.
I would like updateable codecs for the media player.
Usb 2.0 compatibility.
I would like bluray capability.
native mp3, wma, ogg, FLAC support.
I would like a library search function that has 3 modes of search. "artist", "album", "title". Upon selection of this brings up an on-screen keyboard and as you type the letters is jumps closer and closer to the selection, all the while allowing you to scroll wherever. For instance if you were looking for "remember.mp3" by disturbed, but you didn't remember the artist you would select title search. You would then type "r". It would jump to the "r's" and start with ra***. If you could see "remember.mp3 from there, you select it. If not you type the "e" and it jumps closer until finally you could type in the whole word and find it. (this may be something that would only be enabled once the "parking brake" lockout had been satisfied due to the hazards of driving. Possibly voice recognition could be implemented.
I'd also like a playlist option so this searching would not be necessary every trip. One could merely create playlists while in park and then easily select the one they wanted to listen to while driving.
I would like 4volt or higher preouts for front/rear/sub with the option to merely pass through the information input to the headunit on to an optional external processor. The processor would connect to this head unit via toslink(fiber optic cable). (cat5 would be fine as well) This would carry the audio information as well as the ability to adjust the processor's settings from the head unit.
I would like component and hdmi inputs for this screen. (The screen doesn't necessarily have to be high def. It could just sample everything down to 480p for all I'm concerned.... it's a 7" screen so I don't care so much about that, but this is for compatibility with future devices etc.)
I would like a pretty simple eq to begin with. Sub controls separate to adjust the level, and lpf. Then adjustments for the front and rear speakers that have "bass", "mid", "treble" options. Once selected, the slope could be adjusted for each of these with basically an active filter. You could adjust the crossover, the Q center frequency and it's slope as well as boost at this frequency. Once the processor is added, these controls are replaced with a much more in depth eq.
I would also like a template and devkit to be released for easy community skinning and mods and tweaks.
Flame on... I just felt like venting my wish list for a head unit.
