Head unit wish list

I prefer single din flip out units because my Blazer only has 1.5 din.

With that said, I don't mind having quite a large hideaway module.

Here are the features I wish I could find in the same place.

I would like updateable codecs for the media player.

Usb 2.0 compatibility.

I would like bluray capability.

native mp3, wma, ogg, FLAC support.

I would like a library search function that has 3 modes of search. "artist", "album", "title". Upon selection of this brings up an on-screen keyboard and as you type the letters is jumps closer and closer to the selection, all the while allowing you to scroll wherever. For instance if you were looking for "remember.mp3" by disturbed, but you didn't remember the artist you would select title search. You would then type "r". It would jump to the "r's" and start with ra***. If you could see "remember.mp3 from there, you select it. If not you type the "e" and it jumps closer until finally you could type in the whole word and find it. (this may be something that would only be enabled once the "parking brake" lockout had been satisfied due to the hazards of driving. Possibly voice recognition could be implemented.

I'd also like a playlist option so this searching would not be necessary every trip. One could merely create playlists while in park and then easily select the one they wanted to listen to while driving.

I would like 4volt or higher preouts for front/rear/sub with the option to merely pass through the information input to the headunit on to an optional external processor. The processor would connect to this head unit via toslink(fiber optic cable). (cat5 would be fine as well) This would carry the audio information as well as the ability to adjust the processor's settings from the head unit.

I would like component and hdmi inputs for this screen. (The screen doesn't necessarily have to be high def. It could just sample everything down to 480p for all I'm concerned.... it's a 7" screen so I don't care so much about that, but this is for compatibility with future devices etc.)

I would like a pretty simple eq to begin with. Sub controls separate to adjust the level, and lpf. Then adjustments for the front and rear speakers that have "bass", "mid", "treble" options. Once selected, the slope could be adjusted for each of these with basically an active filter. You could adjust the crossover, the Q center frequency and it's slope as well as boost at this frequency. Once the processor is added, these controls are replaced with a much more in depth eq.

I would also like a template and devkit to be released for easy community skinning and mods and tweaks.

Flame on... I just felt like venting my wish list for a head unit.

I would also like the small amplifier to be contained within the monitor unit so that the wiring harness would not need to be ran all the way to the hideaway module. It would plug in, in the dash the same as it does with a normal head unit and the output would be sent from the brain across the data connection between the two, to the monitor and out to the speakers. Also, power and ground should be connected there as well. There is no reason that the wires cannot be ran through the huge cable connecting the two units together. This would make the brain only connected via the single cable and MUCH more convenient installation. Other than the amplifier having a hard time fitting and being adequately cooled in a single din chassis that must also contain a screen, there is no reason this can't happen. I believe that the technology exists to allow for this but how many people buy a high end unit like this and just use the head unit for their mids? Not many. Who cares if it doesn't even have it's own amplifier?

I would like the option to have an expandable, high capacity storage device for the unit. This storage would be updateable via disc or usb and the unit would be able to transfer the files on the fly. This unit could contain optional navigation data as well as be utilized for the homebrew software and skins.

I would like this screen to have wifi capability and samba support so it could be accessed from a pc and the storage be updated that way. It would also be able to update traffic, weather, time sync, as well as receive internet radio, RSS feeds, stock quotes during these times but not be used for ANY internet browsing. (This is because it would basically be a carpc by this time... and that's really not what I'm going for. I'd like most of the functionality of a car pc but with a proprietary design that is sleek and made JUST for an auto environment.)

Please feel free to post your wants in a head unit.

I would also like a variable high pass filter to be applicable to the subwoofer out as well as the lpf. (subsonic filter) This allows people who buy this head unit to not worry about what amp and whether or not it has a ssf.

I would also like a radar detector addon that once it read radar or laser it immediately muted the stereo if set to do so. Also if it could be programmed to for the local law enforcement agency's frequencies and mute when those frequencies were a certain strength. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif now I'm dreaming.
