head unit shuts off with headlights

The problem with it is that a HU really should have a direct fused line to the battery.

Especially higher power HU like mine and alpines

Does your battery have a wire from the Negative the the body of the car,,,,I had a similar problem with flickering lights and that fixed it,,,,give it a try might work

i put a direct line from the batt. and grounded it to a dash support, and it works fine now.

i mustve had it on the dimmer thing and just didnt know it

i know you fixed it, but my bet is you switched the illumination feed (usually orange) with the ACC feed (usually red).....those are both low voltage lines for turn ons, so when you flipped your lights off, the head unit thought your car went off.....make sence?

yea it makes sense

the only wierd thing is is that there are no orange, or red wires at all, i noticed that when i first put it in, normally in a car there is at least one orange or red or pink type color wire

mine were all green,blue, tan,black and like a purple.

didnt seem normal

sometimes the colors varry even on the head unit....your saying the wires in your car were those colors right? thats going to varey from car to car, but the head unit wires usually have some uniformity to them. glad its fixed.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

yea, i got an el camino ss to drive and i put the cd player in it, but i didnt have my license so it didnt do me much good.

then when i got my license i put it in my moms old blazer that she is lettin me drive, and i also put in all the wire and stuff for my amp which will be here thursday

now, today i bought a 78 cutlass and have to take all the shit outa the blazer to put in the cutlass.

the reason why this sucks so bad: i did all that work puttin in the cd player and all the wire for the amp, to turn around and rip it all back out after just under two weeks.

this is becoming a *****......

but its worth it
