Head unit overheating and switching off after about an hour or so?? Help

I have a JVC head unit that ive recently installed which is connected to a vibe sub and amp. At first it wasn't remembering any presets or settings after i switched the engine off. So i checked the wiring and the constant and ignition leads were the wrong way around.

I then switched these back to where they should be and it now remembers my preset stations and settings, i also thought that this would solve the problem of it overheating and powering off after about an hour, but it hasn't. I frequently travel over an hour away on a daily basis so it is very annoying to finish the last half an hour of my journey in silence.

I read that it could be a short on the speaker wiring (not entirely sure what this is or how it can happen)

Can somebody please help?

Get comfortable because your in a position for a good ol' trouble shoot. Pull out your CD player and check your speaker wires with a resistance test, you should get something like 4 ohms on each, its pretty safe to assume that is these read 4 ohms you dont have touching speaker wires, not to mention it would cause the HU to shut off and eventually not come back on..soo.. I would relocate your ground to the chasis. If the problem persist, you need to do a troubleshoot after the unit shuts off, make sure your getting 12v on your constant and acc. If you want you can redo the speaker test as well. If none of these things seem odd, you can bench test it and let it run for about an hour, if it shuts off there too, the unit is just bad

I have now tested all the speaker wires everything is as it should be. The ground is ok.

What im thinking now is the HU has a max output of 19w(RMS) but my door speakers have a max output of 70w(RMS) could this be causing the HU amp to overheat?

If that is the case would it be advised to buy a 4 channel amp and run my door speakers and sub all through the 4 channel amp and not use the HU amp?

Another question, to disconnect the speakers from the HU would i just cut the cable and tie it up with electrical tape?

Thanks, maybe i should test my speakers again.

If the speaker wire was shorted would the speakers still work?

Im starting to think the HU may be the problem. Might just replace it and see.
