Head unit lows?

i'm trying to figure out why my head unit "lows" are the only thing that increase my subwoofer output. The bass level control increases it somewhat, but not very much. Therefore i have to turn the lows up all the way to +6 on the head unit for any decent subwoofer output which causes distortion in the mids pretty quick. Does anyone know why this is?

I want my eq to be flat, but if it is flat then there is very little sub bass.

I always wondered that too, mine is on -10 low with -3 bass boost
it sucks because i basically have no sub output when the lows are at flat, i am trapped right now because lowering the lows decreases sub output significantly and raising the lows increases distortion through out the components up front.

But you are using a sony, so that is weird.

you need a better HU or you need a new setup. Or you need to reset your filters and gains
i know my head unit isn't the best, but i don't understand why it's like this. Why does the lows EQ increase subwoofer output, shouldn't it only be increasing the lows to the front stage?

well, this blows. All this good equipment and my system is fial.

Never did like sony but got it for free brand new in box, so i couldn't reject it. Wish my step mom never sold her pioneer

the subs are barely noticable unless the lows are at max. The lows have to be maxed out on the head unit for any kind of decent sub output. And the component speakers sound like shit when the lows are maxed out.
