Head unit decision

i can buy a alpine cda-7998 for 285 or should i spend money on a newer headunit

or do i do the new 7100

i like the alpine and hear a lot of great sq comments about it, but i am worried about its age.

should i spend more money on a newer unit? and doing so would i loose sq and build quality? and the eclipse would let me go active in the future.. so im stumped
