I was looking at these subs, not really familiar with the brand so I am here to get some input and hear from people who have owned them or heard them in person.

I was thinking of 2 15's or 2 18's for my Cherokee, I would like to do an spl/sq set up more spl then sq, but i thought it would be fun, i am more a sq guy but once in a while i like to play with the boom boom, looking at these subs they seem reasonably priced and have decent looking specs.

my questions on these are what is the sound difference between 15's and 18's, should i stick with 15's for a little better response and quality or do the 18's do good for this as well, and what type of spl difference is there between the 2. and what would need to be done for the 18's that i can get away without doing for the 15's...... i guess i am trying to learn here since i have only owned 1 15 years ago before i really knew anything about car audio. also i was looking at powering them with the Q1-3500D amplifier, but i see that they have ratings for 12v 14v 16v and 18v .

thanks

measure up your jeep and see whats the max cubic feet you can spare. 6 cubic feet or more per sub with the 18 and 4.5 cubic feet for the 15. Thats after port displacement. If you have the space, go with 18s. They take a sh*t ton of power. Make sure your electricals can handle it.

I may end up leaving the seat down in the rear, haven't decided yet, but I need to look into the higher voltage set up's (this is a field I know very little about 16v and 18v) it is an old jeep 91' and I only use it to go rock crawling and camping with anyway, so my options are almost endless, I do not need to keep space for groceries, or going out with family, will not be taking trips so no room for luggage, it will just be an offroading boom box.

go with the 18s then. minimum of 6 cubic feet net per sub and you'll still get SQL out of it. I'd say wait till black friday sales, their prices go down considerably however the shipping wait is pretty long. A lot of other great subs will fall into the affodable category too so just wait till then to make your purchase and save a few hundred.

I may just do that, besides I need to get all the new stuff installed in the wifes jeep first before she kills me, then it wont be so bad when new boxes start showing up at the door again.

For future reference, the size of the sub has nothing to do with the sound quality. That's a myth. 18s can hit the fast notes just like 10s can, and 10s will dig just has low as 18s will. It's all dependent on the box.

The only difference is if both sets are givin a proper enclosure the 18's will be louder do to more cone area but the 15's will be plenty loud. Make sure you got like an extra 500 to invest in good electrical.

That's true for the cheaply made mainstream companies. But the high end companies adjust the motor strength to compensate for the added weight.
Or most of the times the motor force is more then strong enough to control the excusion. A lot of the motors structures are the same on different size subs.

I run that amp on 2 of the 12s ..bulletproof stuff...each hdc4 will take one of those amps if u wanted to...if u have the room for 18s go for it.u wont be disappointed...

ok so here is what I have for measurements........ from inside of wheel well to wheel well I can go 43 1/2", from back of back seat to 3 or 4" before hatch is 29" and from floor up 20", that would give me roughly 12.3 cu. ft. before woofer displacement and port volume, bracing ect. to gain I could slant the piece at the same angle as the seat, and go from the floor up to maybe 22" that would put me around 14 cu. ft. before displacement and port volume.

this would give me functionality of the rear seat and still give me 3"to4" gap between box and hatch for either woofer or port meaning port facing hatch or woofer or both.

any thoughts on port and woofer placement? or cu. ft. requirement (for the HDC4 18")
