how much current draw would 2 orion old school hcca 225's pull? i had the 2 kx1200's at 1 ohm each and had no problems at all. so how bad would it be with the 225's with one of them at 1ohm and the other probably at 2 ohm? thanks
More like 40A each at full draw, remember the power supplies are unregulated the more voltage and current available the more wattage they can reproduce.
It is not uncommon for a 225HCCA bridged to a 1 ohm mono load to generate between 500-600 watts if the vehicle's electrical system can handle it.
Not without a fuse upgrade they won't. Fusing on them is only 30A. I should know, I own 3. They are capable of putting out a ton of power but that doesn't menat that they are going to pull a ton of current regularly. They might pull more than 30A for a really short burst (a few milliseconds), but with music 40A for the pair is all I would plan on as an average. If you are replacing your Class D amps with the 225s, you are going to be disappointed. They were great amps in their day (still sound better than the vast majority of amps) but they are really inefficient and have no place in a modern SPL comp system. Best case the pair at full tilt will still fail to equal one of the Class Ds you had and might draw as much current as one of them.
