Considering the author of the Harry Potter books was almost in a destitute state and the origins of the first novel were scrawled on a cocktail napkin (and have now turned into the monstrous money-making machine that both the novels and the resultant movies now inarguably are) I would say it is a textbook case of rags to riches. They may not be your particular cup of tea as far as fiction goes but they are incredibly well-written as they are entertaining (for those that can appreciate a good read) no matter what age bracket you fall in.

I am a huge King fan but Hemmingway is incredibly droll and I can't stand his stuff generally. His personal history is pretty interesting but his works aren't anything I find myself getting into.

The books apeal to a HUGE group of fans not just age but different life styles.. cliqs or w.e

I mean like I cant think of a set of books that so many different kinds of people like as much as these.
