hardwiring a power inverter, help a bit

I know how to physically hardwire the thing but my question is, which is the hot and which is the ground? is the wire going to the little nub at the end of the cig lighter plug the hot or ground //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif thats really all i need to know, there are two metal things going down each side of the thing which hit the inside of the cig lighter recepticle as well, i assume thats either ground or power! lol

you need pix or anything? i'm sure there is a grip of people here who have done this. I want to run an old small dvd player under my pass seat to my Avic-D2 so I can have some vidZzZzZz

The nub is your 12 volt positive and the other one is your negative.

^-- what he said. The side wall of the lighter socket is the ground and the nub hits the positive on the bottom of the socket.

DMM's are your friend...why are you hard wirering a inverter? Putting in an Xbox?

Usually as well one of the wires will have writting on it to.

hopefully i can just plug it in to the inputs on the deck and not have to worry bout any sort of e-brake bypass, i know there needed to be a bypass for the nav but the nav tray is non functional (got it that way and dont need nav honestly) so i have a cool touch screen ipod/cd/radio player right now!

ic, didnt read the op. Ya, as long as the unit has an input it should be fine. I had to step up to a converter as well to power my Dtv converter for my tv. Does that have a tv tuner?

its quite the deck. without the nav tray working i cant do some basic functions though, which is a bummer but oh well when i get the income to fix it then i'll deal with it.
