Hard Hitting Bass

I am a complete car audio noob, and I have a question.

I want to add a sub or two to my car and I don't know what size. I listen to a lot of techno and some rock and I'm after subs that hit really hard but not necessarily low. My friends recommend that I get a couple of 10's. For them to hit really hard, is it advisible to get ones that handle a really high wattage and a comparable amp, or would something like the Rockford Fosgate punch p1's be enough? Should I get two subs or just one?

Thank you

My sugguestion:

a single 12 or 15. A GOOD one. Port it high. You'll usually need less power and space than two subs and get the same output.

A subwoofer or two may not give you exactly what your looking for. Consider upgrading your door speakers to a component set. Most of that tight, punchy, "chest thumping" bass comes from your midrange woofers.

I plan on replacing everything in my 96 ford explorer. It came with the "premium" JBL audio but its pretty much a piece of shit. I one 6x8 in each of the doors. I don't really have a tight budget, I want to spend what's necessary to not be unhappy with my system because I cut corners.

T9X,

"chest thumping bass" is exactly what I was talking about I just couldn't find the words. I see you recommend I get components, but what about upgrading all 4 6x8's to better ones? What exaclty is the advantage of components over coaxial speakers? I already bought the Pioneer DEH-P80MP which says it has 60W speaker outputs. Is that enough to drive speakers pretty loud or should I invest in an amplifier for them?

Go with round components. Like 6.5's

Edit* 60 watts should be enough to power some comps. I have 60 watts per channel going to my rainbows and they sound great.
