Had back surgery yesterday at the ripe age of 25...

honestly....i would lie down as much as possible .. sitting up puts alot of pressure on that area of your lower back= bad for healing
That's exactly the opposite of what my neurosurgeon told me.

He said the best thing to do is walk as much as I can, but start off lightly.

Laying down for prolonged periods of time will cause stiffness.

I try to do both. Walking around at work definitely feels better at times than sitting down or laying down. Though prolonged walking hurts in the long run.

Laying down too much definitely does cause stiffness though. I'm having trouble getting a good nights sleep at the moment.

try lying flat on your back, with a pillow or two under your knees. It'll lift your legs and take some of the pressure off of your lower back
Only problem is that I can't fall asleep on my back. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

Never have been able to. Usually end up sleeping on my side. Way back when I used to sleep on my stomach and would ALWAYS fall asleep, but since the back problems I haven't been able to do that.

Plus I toss and turn too much to put pillows under my legs.

I have some ambien that was prescribed to me when I complained about a lack of sleep, but I have yet to use them.

One crazy thing was how my right hip would bulge out the side. All the pressure from the disc being pinched literally made my back crooked looking.

It all went away after surgery.

I've also learned to sleep with a pillow between my legs. I could tell a difference for sure.

been waiting for a cervical(neck) fusion on my c5/c6 thats a result of a wreck 3 years ago where my neck was broken(@ c5)... Left arm is usless and i cant grip most things.... lots of numbness na dconstant pain every day... I hope ya had a good surgen and a good recovery.... My father had two cervical fusions about 15-20 years ago and back then it was a whole diff ball game with super long recovery times and messy surgens... Did you go with an artificial disc or a fusion ? Personally cant wait to get my surgery done but its all caught up in liens and litigation... I'm also young at 27 but with 3 years of inactivity under my belt its gonna be a while to recover to any type of normal lifestyle. I hope you didnt have too much atraphy or muscle loss... Just try to keep off the pills and to get back into peak shape slowly and at your own pace... best of luck to ya, i know its hell

btw, 2 weeks of no *** aint shit.... i had to wait 16 weeks when my neck was broken and wasnt alowed to even ********... talk about hell... i didnt sleep cause of the hard collar that kept my head and back aligned and i too cant sleep on my back even with ambien

odd, i didnt know they could do that... i would think that would leave that level at high risk of another slip... i dont know much about the Lumbar area as i do have more knowlage about the cervical area... I wish they could just remove some disk in my neck instead of putting part of a dead person in me... that shit freaks me the hell out...
