Gun people?

I've wanted a shotgun for some time now.. mostly for bird hunting, trap/skeet shooting, and home protection. I would prefer a 12 gauge. I have looked a bit at the remington 870 and the mossberg 500, as those seem to be more likely in my price range. Any other suggestions? I was hoping to buy it tomorrow because otherwise i wont have the chance for a while, so the more info i can gather tonight the better.

Where should I go for the best deals? I want to stay in the 200-300 range if possible.

Definitely the Remington 870. Get one chambered to shoot up to 3 1/2" shells. I own three of them and they are tough guns.

well i shoot ona trap team i use a browning gold hunter perfect all around gun but a mossburg was my first hard to **** up relable guns fireing pins break in 870's

I have had a 870 for about 13 years now with no broken pin. Great gun for the price. I now shoot a Beretta over/under for skeet, trap, 5 stand and sporting clays. Another great gun but very expensive.

I would much rather have the 1100 for hunting because it is an auto and will not have as much recoil. My 870 kicks like a mule and my buddies 1100 is so much nicer to shoot.

The 1100 will be around $200-$250 more. You can get the 870 for $250 most anywhere and the Mossburg 500 for $200 most anywhere.

The nice thing about both the 870 and 500 is that they sell quite a few accessories for both of them to use in home deffense and hunting. I would prefer a pump if I was going to use it for home deffense.

Another vote for the remmy 870, love mine it's 15+ years old and still shoots like new, sure it kicks but be a man.

Remington 870, in that price range, for sure. I've had mine for many, many years with no problems. I can't say that they're made like they used to be as I haven't used a new one. However, there aren't many choices at that price point that has a solid reputation. Mossbergs are a popular choice as a first gun but have not heard an owner who was satisfied with them.

Also, definitely go with the 3.5 inch. It will be incredibly versatile that way.

For the price, id def go with the remmington.... A Binelli or a mossberg are gonna run you a lil more $$$$$$
