Guess what I found in my wife's SUV

Need some advice on what to do. Gave my wife my 4-Runner a year ago and I forgot I had some equipment left in it. IDQ10 D4 V.2 Subwoofer, Sony XM-504x amp and MB Quart 6.5" Components.

Here the deal. I want to reuse the IDQ10 (i think it is a dual voice coil 2 ohm speaker) Can anyone validate? i plan on using the amp to power some new speakers I have purchased for my new truck. So what amp should I put on the IDQ10. My head unit is a Nak CD-400.

Any comments or suggestions?

I posted this in general discussion earlier, but realized after it was more of an "Amplifier" question...Sorry

Dual 4 ohms. So you will want to wire it to 2 ohms.

An amp that does 250 RMS x 1 @ 2ohms would work well.

Thanks ss3079 for the reply. I have a question though. i just took the sub ut of the enclosure and looked at the way it was wired...and it doesn't look like the illustration you attached.

The positive from the amp came to the first set of positive posts on the sub. Then the negative from the amp went to the negative of the other posts...and then a wire was run between the positive and negative of the two voice coils. I hope I am using the correct terms. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Does that make sense?

Either you had a powerful amp that did too much at 2 ohm for the sub sothey wired it to 8 ohms...or the installer just made a mistake.

But if the amp did anything like 100 RMS or 250 RMS at 2ohms...that sub was really underpowered lol.

So wire it to 2 ohms like in the first diagram, feed it ~200-250 RMS, throw it in a nice box, and you'll be wangin' away.

Good luck,

- Steve

Thanks for the help, I know the amp was not overpowering that sub. It was a Sony XM-504x wired to tri-mode. So at best it was getting maybe a 100 watts RMS. I guess the installer messed up.

I will take yor advice and look for an amp that does 200-250 RMS in 2 ohm and wire it like your first illustration. Hmmm...amps?
