Grounding?

I just read this.
Would my amp be cutting in and out on the bass in the subs if my ground was bad?. because I only have like 18 guage wire grounding it.
Yes that could be the problem, also you need a thicker ground wire perhaps 4 or 8 gauge depending on what amp your using.

Commonly accepted wisdom dictates that your ground cabling be as big if not bigger than the power cable. In essence, with that most assuredly too-small ground wire, you're choking the current flow. You stated that you've got 4awg power wire. THat gives the current plenty of path to flow upon to feed the amp. But to complete the circuit you have to provide it a return path to earth (ground). The amount of current that can freely flow along 4awg cable will bottleneck in 18awg cable. Yes, friend, you definately need to up your cable sizing on the ground side //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

wow 4 ga and only 18 ga ground???? thats just stupid....get bigger ground wire
How constructive.

How constructive.
and make it no more than 12 inches:)

I want to man. but I can't make the 3 foot silver 4 gauge wire reach anything that grounds it. i tried under myseat on the gold metal I thought that was ground but it doesnt seem to work

Well someone helped me with my amp, it works perfect now I now know why it didnt work right. i got grounding correct and everything, but if I hve two subs on at once it doens't sound as good prolly something with the settings on amp but its got plate on it but im too lazy. so i just keep it on one sub for now

GND and PWR are essentially one and the same

and should always be equal to each other..

There are occasions where a product will operate with different

size wires but in the game of automotive car audio its best to

stick with correct basics

maybe because it cant get enough current to run 2?? 18awg ground is never correct on a 4awg power...
