i have a eclipse avx5000 for a while now. i am thinking about to get a gps system. do you think is a good idea to get eclipse gps105 or get one of those portable one like tomtom or garmin?

If you are looking for true navigation unit, get one of the other units you mentioned.

The Eclipse unit will get you from point A to point B. It will show you where you are at as long as you travel down the route that's been planned out. Problem is that if you deviate from this, it will not help you anymore. You have to input the information from your computer and upload the information to the HU. It is not like a "real" navigation unit. If the features that it has is all that you need, that is cool. If you are looking for something to help you get to different places as a dedicated navigation aid, look at the other units you mentioned.
