So, my car was broken into, and my stereo stolen. Not the first time. I've decided to leave the hole in the dash, get 4 chan amp for my 5.25's and my 4x6's, and run a portable mp3 player. I don't know much about car audio amps. I know a little about amps in general, as I do PA and stuff, but I don't know most of these companies. I've been reading forums for about a week now, and I've got some questions... 1. Do different amps have different colloration? I like warm amps (I would run tube if I could afford to, or maybe my 1979 CerwinVega). Is one amp warmer and less digital sounding than the other, or is this a situation where a preamp will make all the difference? 2. I'm looking for about 60-80wX4 in the $200 range, and right now I'm looking at Phoenix Tantrum or maybe Soundstream VGA... are these good options? Is there something else I should look at? 3. With the types of amps i'm describing, will I need a cap or anything else to wire this properly? 4. Also, what are some good preamp/eq's on the market? I'm on a tight budget, but I may be able to make this happen. Any help would be apreciated. thanks, joe
