Good Deal?

Hello everyone,

I just picked myself up a new (to me) 05 4Runner. This is the first car that I have owned that has enough room for subs and needless to say I want some installed ASAP. I've been doing my research over the course of this past week and believe that I have settled on a system that kind of falls into my budget.

I am looking to get a Hifonics 1200W Amp and a pair of Alpine 12" Type R's. However with my budget I would only be able to afford one Type R for now and even that is pushing it. But, luckily I was able to find someone online who is looking to sell his two Alpine 12" type R's and his older Hifonics 1200W amp. He has given me a price of $340 for all of it but I am going to try and get it all for $300.

If I go this route is there anything I should be weary of when buying a used amp and subs? The seller is offering to send pics and a video of the subs working but I am completely new at this and really dont know what kind of questions to ask.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would save up for better equipment but it's not really a bad starter system
I would love to save up but I am poor after buying this car and all of my other expendable money is going to be going into engine mods. I am just looking for some decent hard hitting subs that will allow me to play some Nickatina "Killa Whale" the way it was meant to be played lol. In the beginning I was hoping to get away with a $300 total system so $300 just for the amp and subs makes it seem high-end to me.

I don't think its a bad deal on the setup but after you get it keep reading up on here and figure out what you really want to run
Would you recommend a better set-up for the $300 price range? Like I said I am new at this and would like as many options as possible. I would like this set-up to be the only set-up I will need unless I stumble into a pile of cash. I work in construction and in this economy I can only afford to buy once and buy right.

it's dangerous to say around here but honestly my recommendation is to check over at CACO you'll find some good deals or here in the classifieds section

what about the box and wiring is that included in your budget? nothing wrong with type Rs. build a ported 4 -5 32hz box and you wil like them.
I wish they were included int the $300 but from what I have been told I will not be able to get anything decent for under $300. I was planning on building a ported box myself and getting a $40 4 gauge amp kit. I also dont know how to install any audio in my car so I need to tack on another $100. Although I may have found a family friend who could do it for cheap.

I am just looking for a decent set-up that will last and hit pretty hard. Nothing to blow my mind but something to cruise around with that will make my truck bump.

then ya man go for it. check craigslist in your area. you can usually find type Rs on there cheap, and then see what you have left and buy an amp.
Good to hear. I am going to see what I can get this other guy down to on the amps. If you guys are not a fan of the Hifonics amps then what would be another good alternative to power two 12" type r's on the cheaper side? I am willing to drop $150-$200 for an amp.
