GM vehicles: some sort of bypass module for aftermarket HU?

I went to get a dash install kit and wiring harness from walmart today, and they were selling some sort of module related to action sounds such as lights being on and keys bein in ignition. Is this a marketing gimmick or am i going to need one of these? I've never heard of needing one before, and i havent heard of these sounds being produced by the stock HU?

Walmart doesn't have what you need if you have onstar/want to keep it.

and YES you do need that module.

car audio shop should have one. A place that sells metra harnesses.

I believe you need a GM-OS11

Newer GMs send a serial data bus through the radio. To maintain integrity of all chimes/on-star and some diagnostics you need the module or relocate the stock HU and run all new wires for aftermarket.
