I work at the local ace store part time to help pay for college and these two guys come in for wood to build a box. So I ask them what their building it for and they tell me two pioneer 10's. Well, I tell them what wood to use and give them some pointers since they were obviously noobie's. When they come back they had me come out to listen to it. Holy crap it was terrible, they had the gain cranked up, the amp was one of those V3 amps you get at walmart. The subs were older than dirt and sounded blown, then one of them picks up an amp out of the trunk to show me and asks if its a good amp, it was a Kraco 50x2( ha haaha)well I told him the kraco was worthless and decided I had to get back to work cause if I told him they wasted their time and money on that setup it would have ruined their day. I just figured they needed to go through the motions on their own.

Should've told them what could improve and at LEAST tune it properly for them.

I did give them some pointers. They were going to make the box huge, like 4 cubic feet until I told them to size it down to about 1 cube each. Besides they were blown anyway, nothing I would have done would have helped the sound. I agree with matt and One, point them in the right direction. Ill sit at the local store and people will come in with some POS and I tell them what would be better when they ask it, otherwise I give them ideas on how to tune their system better, or box ideas, etc. Helping others is what makes car audio grow.

I remember I was in a local parking lot, showing some kid my 15A that I had at the time...I tried to show him the basics in porting and how a port works and whatnot...he picked up a little...if they put a lot of effort into it, you shouldn't have shot them down- there was a time when everyone here looked at a sub and thought to themselves- "what the hell is this thing?"...we all start somewhere.

I think you are misunderstanding me. I didn't want to make them feel bad by telling them the equipment they bought was crap, I told them it sounded ok and even looked at the settings on their amp, everything looked ok except for the gain being cranked. It just reminded me of when I was a noobie with my two Jensen 12's and an audiovox amp which only had one working channel. Don't worry, I'll see them again and give them some more pointers when I'm not swamped with customers. P.S. I got my R5c's today, woo hoo!
