If the controller only needs the battery then you can plug it on the console with the USB cable and the move through the menus and figure it out the capacity of the HDD.

If the controller does not work even plugged in, it's not just the battery, it will need some repair...

Another way to find out is to remove that cover on the bottom of the PS3, then take out 2 screws and pull out the HDD, you can see the capacity on top of the HDD, this won't void any warranty or anything, just to let you know

 
I just went to Bestbuy tonight and bought a laptop and a few misc things and seen the prices on these now so I dropped the price and it is firm. I will figure out the gigs in the morning, have to get rest. Thanks

Just got a good deal on it and im not a gamer at all and I seen that they have come down a little since this one it was manufactured in September of 07. I will try to get you a pic in the morning, I am about to call it a night.
