Just wondering... what's the difference between this and a cheap $20 DVD player? I don't have a DVD player in my bedroom anymore because I had a shitty one, and maybe I'll make the investment if you can tell me why I should....

A cheap DVD player will broadcast in 480i or 480p, not 1080i or 720p....the processing is much, much higher quality in this unit as compared to your standard unit as well. The Oppo also reads just about any format available. There's a reason it's so highly regarded in the home theater community.

It is not an HD-DVD player....it will only play regular DVDs, but will process the signal in 1080i or 720p (depending on your HDTV setting) as opposed to the standard 480p of a regular DVD player.

That is an excellent price. You should probably just sell it on eBay though since most people here don't know what an oppo is and aren't real a/v-philes.

I've seen some on ebay actually sell for more than the Oppo new price....which is weird, but I haven't really felt like throwing it up there yet.
