Cobra's ESD-9870 11-Band models come standard with an 8-point digital compass using the same technology found in high-end automobiles. They also feature stylish designs and incorporate SmartMute anti-false alert technology that virtually eliminates false alerts set off by automatic door openers, microwave links, and other non-police radar/laser signals while a vehicle is stopped or moving slowly.

· SmartPower technology: This feature, which is exclusive to the ESD-9870, senses the RPM or pulse noise from a vehicle's engine to determine engine activity. If the ignition has been turned off for 30 minutes and the radar detector has been left on, the detector puts itself into sleep mode to avoid draining the vehicle's battery.
· 3-Level City Mode: The ESD-9870 also offer users three selectable options of mode sensitivity depending on user preference - City Mode 1, City Mode 2 and City Mode 3 - as opposed to the industry standard of only offering a single city mode. The two new modes reduce the frequency of false alerts in densely populated urban areas.
