Frustrated with panasonic head unit

I have a panasonic c7203u model head unit and i am pretty dissapointed with it right now. I read some reviews and other people seem to be dissapointed with it too. It is a nice head unit, but it does not work well with subs at all. There is no loud setting as many other head units have, and i have to turn my volume up louder than i can stand to get bass. A friend of mine has the same subs as me and his are a lot louder with a smaller amp, and he is running a pioneer head unit. I am just going to order a new head unit rather than upgrading my subs and amplifier. Has anyone else had the same problem with a panasonic head unit? and what are some good head units in the $150 range?

turn ur gain up

when i turn my gain up it gets louder, but the subs distort. How should I fix that problem? There are SQ settings on the radio that i can mess with along with turning up the gain, but i still want my subs to sound good.
