formula for cone area

hey guys im trying to figure out the cone area for a 15'' sub..i know its 176.63 but how do you come up with that answer?
what i have is 1x(3.1415)(7.5)^2=47.12 is what im getting..and obviously thats wrong..so can someone lend a hand?
First off, make sure you know how to use a calculator:

http://www.google.com/search?source=ig&hl=en&rlz=&q=%283.1415%29%287.5%29%5E2&btnG=Google+Search

Second, that's not an accurate way of measuring cone area. Cone area (Sd in the Theille/Small parameters) only considers part of the surround to be considered part of the moving area (some use 1/3 others have used 1/2.. it really depends). So taking 7.5 as the radius is not a correct way of finding cone area. Just look under the parameters of the driver and find Sd. That is the best answer.

You do realize that a 15" round sub's cone does not actually have a 15" diameter...right?

Different cone and surround styles allow for different cone area.

For example:

DD3512 > RE SX12 > Eclipse Ti pro 12

All are 12's but TOTALLY different cone area.

Check the T/S, thats about the only way to really find out.
