Depending on your classes, a jump/thumb drive. I needed one for one of my classes and didnt have one.

Bring basic tools with you. You will be a god, especially if your going to any form of liberal school where your surrounded by rich kids that cant tell you a torx bit from a torue wrench. Easy way to make money. I brought the top half of my toolbox, had all my wreches and all that good stuff and I made well over 500 bucks my first semester. All I did was find people, mostly girls that were about to bring their cars in for basic shit and fixed it for them at half the cost. They will love you and they will pay you because its their partents money.
Oh yeah it dosnt hurt to put up a flyer in the different dorms that you are a basic mechanic for hire. If you provide the service, the money will come. Brake jobs are your best friend, you can make good coin on those, especially if you have a parts africa around to get cheap stuff at.
As for other important things. TV, Video games, Pepto bismol, a small fridge, a small stereo (or big), Posters/ tapestries to decorate, A LOCK BOX. Bring kitchen ware also, most dorms have small kitchens. This is unless you dont how/or want to cook.
The list gets much bigger once you move out of the dorms and into your own appartment.
Edit: A fan, bring a big fan.

where did you live...iirc mesa and middle earth are AC'd..and so are the rest of the undergrad housing complex's....except CV cuz CV sucks lol
