[QUOTE="brian84corvette, post: 5844007, member: 586635"] I like this thread. and I have a real question to ask you guys about a clipped signal. letts say just for fun here, I was running a 25% clipped signal. meaning 75% of it was still in the safe zone, but it would want to travel 25% more but cant, so would flatline for 25% of its stroke on the wave length. now my question is..... if the sub would push out letts say 10mm of mechanical throw on a full on un clipped signal, would the sub end up pushing out 12mm or so when sending it a 25% clipped signal ? because I woud think it would have some sort of "ramp effect" ride a bike over a hill with nice speed. smooth. no jump = un clipped signal ride a bike over a table top with a ramp faced lip = air time above the ramp. = clipped signal so this same idea about mass + momentum would lead me to believe that sending a clipped signal would definately cause exessive mechanical throw of a sub. wich all subs are not capable of handling. - or impropper sized box / tuning can also add complexity to this. but am I right in thinking a sub that will play to its safe limit clean moving 10mm out would try and move closer to 12+mm when recieving a clipped signal ?
