Ok, as my mosey towards my 3-way active setup, I'm selling off parts of my 2-way. The W18NXs have gone a little while ago, and I recently got my XT19s installed, so I'm now letting go of my Alpine tweeters.

Here's a few pics:

From the pics, you can see one of the emblems have fallen off. I did have that saved somewhere in case someone wanted it when I sold it, but I've lost track of it since. They're just lightly glued on and are probably better off without, lol. Anywho, the one is missing it and it's lost and gone forever.

As well, I have soldered wires on the back tabs. You can do whatever you want with those. One of the tweeters did break a tab off from too much fiddling, and I broke the other off soon after. I just soldered the wires directly to the I guess I'll call "stumps," not the best word, where the tabs connect to the tweeter. This worked plenty well actually and makes the connection quite sturdy. The tabs aren't real easy to break off really, just me fiddling with it too much and pulling on wires.:p The other tweeter's fine and still with the tabs. If you happen to break one off, it's a rather easy fix and really just makes for a more durable setup.

The tweeters are in 100% working condition, had them for somewhere over a year. Here's a link to my old review of them I wrote up a while back:

I have recently been able to play with lower frequency performance after I got my Ural HU. They can play very low, under 1kHz down to around 800-900Hz without rolling off, but you are greatly limited by excursion at this level. You can get by with easier listening levels at this point, but loud listening isn't advisable. I've found they can get quite loud and stay within their linear range and clean as long as you stay above 2kHz. Above 2.5kHz, I could never hear any level of distortion even a extremely high volumes, a level I like to call "screaming." They are robust performers. I've always considered these as a "half-way" tweeter, something sort of in between a normal tweeter and a 2" dome mid. They sacrifice a little top end for serious output capability and low end extention. They will pair with any woofer. I think I've run them with 5 different woofers now, and because they can cross high or low, they can mate to anything with ease.

I'm looking for $150 shipped.

Very different. The Scanspeak tweeter, I'll just refer to them as Scanspeaks as they, well, are, the Scan tweeters are more robust with a heavy low end. Tonality is relatively natural yet full-bodied, not really thick or smoothed out but full. The low frequency capability is the tweeter's real emphasis and its main attraction, well that and it's compact size.

The XT19 is a smaller 3/4" tweeter. Tonality is pretty similar, equally natural, but the XT19 offers more top end detail as well as better off-axis response being a 3/4" tweeter. Feel is lighter and more subtle. Everything sounds good and sounds flat(no real peaks or valleys anywhere). The real benifit with the XT19 is its affordability and flat and very usable response that extends up high. It doesn't come across harsh or annoying. I personally consider it a slightly smooth tweeter with no edge and sharp crispness to the music. The detail's there but there's no edge to anything that bites you. It's a very pleasant tweeter to listen to. The downside would be the low frequency extention. It's something that becomes very obvious if you play both tweeters full range. I'm not really sure where the recommended crossover point is for the tweeter, but I have mine at 3kHz and like it there. I doubt they'd be of much use below 2kHz if they play well that low. They don't have nearly the excursion nor power handling of the Scanspeak tweeter. As well, sensitivity of the XT19 tweeter is pretty low, only 86dB. This isn't much of a problem for those running active, but throwing them on a passive set may yield overly quiet tweeters if not paired with the right woofer or without enough x-over adjustability. I was playing with both tweeters with my brother's ED EDi6500 set, and this was a big problem with the XT19 tweeter. I couldn't play it loud enough to blend well with the woofer, even with the +3dB setting. The Scanspeak's sensitivity matched very well and blended very easily.

The Scanspeak is a tweeter that can easily soak up 150w rms and play very loud without missing a beat. It's clean, it's full, it's accurate. As long as you don't cross too low for the volume you're listening, they're pretty much indestructable.

I figure you're going to ask which I prefer. Well, it depends. Each have their benifits and weaknesses. The real XT19 is a great tweeter and it can be had affordably both in the home audio and Alpine Type-X formats. I moved to these as I am stepping to a 3-way setup. I don't have to play low, so I can settle with a quality 3/4" tweeter. I bought the Scanspeak tweeters originally to pair with my PG Ti Elite woofers. They had a overly strong midrange(+2kHz) that I didn't like. I wanted a tweeter that would let me cross low and be robust enough to keep up with the lively midrange of the Elites. These fit the bill. I have since used them with quite a few different woofers and they happily match to anything at any frequency. This is one of their realy positive abilities. You can even pair these up with a larger 8" woofer in a 2-way setup and get away with it. It's not something that many tweeters can do. Sensitivity is pretty much perfect at 90dB and power handling is great. The only real downside to the Scans is that their top end rolls off a little early, starting at around 10kHz. This makes for pretty mild top end detail. It's a good thing for those sensitive to harsh highs as these will never once annoy you. However, details are missing, well not missing but very quiet. This is the downside to the Scan tweeter. Depending on your listening tastes, it may or may not even be a downside. I'm moving to the XT19 as I no longer have a need for playing blew 2kHz and would like to regain some of that top end back. However, if I was to stay with a 2-way and wanted to run a larger 7" or 8" woofer, especially one geared better for midbass, the Scanspeak tweeter would essentially be needed and the prefered option. It all depends.

Ok, that was a bit of typing, lol.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif
