Pretty certain you're right. This may not be the case w/o a new contract but who the **** buys phones without one.

I rooted my Droid (1) for Wireless Teathering for car rides and camping.

Also have it overclocked to 1.2 ghz from 550mhz.

Bunch of little things you can do extra.
