First time installing new head unit. Need help.

Hey guys, first time installing a new stereo. I have a 2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue, and I wanted to get a Pioneer MVH-X390BT unit. Crutchfield says that it fits, but they also say that I need the following items to install it:

  • Axxess ASWC-1 Steering Wheel Control Adapter
  • Crux SOCGM-17B Wiring Interface
  • Scosche GM1583B Dash Kit
  • Metra 40-GM10 Antenna Adapter

Is this true? I can't reuse the stuff that already comes with my stock stereo? Secondly, are all of these good parts, or should I look at something else?

Thanks.

If you want to keep your steering wheel then you'll need the axxess, if not, take it off the list, its expensive. You can just live with actually using the radio instead to control your audio vs your steering wheel

the next 3 are necessary, metra is good parts and crutchfield generally has excellent customer service. You can look those parts up on amazon along with the head unit to see if you can get it for cheaper.

That head unit doesnt play CDs at all and the audio options are pretty limited. Might want to up the budget by 10 dollars and get a pioneer 6900bt instead from sonic or amazon. Thats an overall GIANT leap in improvement over the x390bt soundwise.

Very helpful, thanks for the info. Also, I just looked into the 6900bt like you said, but crutchfield says it won't fit in my car because of the depth requirement. I'm sure it is possible to do some modifications to make it work, but that's a little bit beyond what I'm comfortable with. Thanks again.
