FI Q 15 vs. SSA ICON 15

I just built my first box, 3.6 cubes at 32hz for a single 15. I talked to Aaron at SSA and they are out of the Icon's atm because they are waiting on building materials. I've looked at the specs and the main difference that I see is the Xmax, Fi being 27mm and the Icon being 20.5. how would the Fi Q compare to the icon. I'm running a Sundown 1500 to it. Also if I choose the Q what is the max wattage I can feed the Q before I need the BP option?

Hmmm, Both are great subwoofers. The Xmax shouldn't affect really much besides its ability to operate well inside a sealed enclosure(which obviously isn's the case with yours), without the BP option I am guessing that the Q could probably handle around 1200-1300watts, with the BP option you can add around 300-400watts to that number.

Both are great subwoofers, if you don't feel like waiting than get the Q, you won't regret it. If you decide to wait and get the Icon, you won't regret it either.

Q's are not in stock right now either. Waiting on parts as well...lol
Trepkos is right on with his 1200-1300rms estimate. I was told by Scott himself that he wouldnt recommend more than 1300rms on a regular Q.

hmm, I checked the site today and all the ordering info is back now.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

The bp option gives the driver better cooling thus raising the thermal handling. That is how you are able to run more power to it without damaging the driver. So if that is something that you think is worth it then do it. It doesnt necessarily mean that you wont get full potential out of the Q with just 1000rms though. Just gives you the option to add that power if you want to.

Also, an Icon will take the same power as a Q without the BP option with no problem at all.
Exactly. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

So if you need that extra power handling and plan to use it, go for the Q with the BP.

maybe i had some weird sub or something, but my q took 2kw pretty well. It started to suffer from power compression around that wattage, and would stink if i let it rip for about 20min to half an hour straight. I don't see why it couldn't handle 1500 from that sundown. This was before the bp option was introduced.

I really dont think I'll use all 1500 watts dont need it really, I'm running my mid/high off hu power at the moment. I think I may save the $40 and put 1100-1200w on it. Should be safe around there on music?
