So my friend calls me up today and asks if I can come over and help him with a problem he is having with his Dell..

He is running XP Home on a P4.. ..Anywho, The problem is that everytime after you restart, a box will appear saying that the PC is going to be shut down in one minute.. then it counts down and restarts and it just keeps on going and going like this.. The Message talks about the Remote Procedure Call and that the Shutdown was Initiated by NT Authority\System.. ..Can anybody know how I could solve this problem..?

sounds like you need to spend a lot of time with some dumb tech from Dell. I have never heard of that problem, and I've seen tons of computer problems in my day...

There's a patch for XP to fix that problem. I will try and find the link for it.

OMG!!!! Our network was just hammered with that! There is something called the remote procedure call which when it fails can allow a hacker to gain complete control over your machine. You ab****ely must install the patch that auro posted. It will fix the problem for you. You may also want to disconnect your machine from any connected network and do a full virus scan.

I had the same thing today as well as several other people i've talked to, install that patch mentioned above and you should be good.

I saw this on the news today......it's supposed to get worse this Saturday, and everyone whose computer is infected with the virus will be automatically redirected to the HP site to jam the system, then the computer will shut down, restart, and repeat the process again.
