[feeler] WTB Subs Alpine, JL, maybe kenwood

My friend is getting a new 2004 VW jetta, and i am just seeing on what you guys think i should install for him. He wants more SQ than SPL, but he wants to stay with well know mainstream names (JL audio, Alipne, maybe kenwood, etc.) what do you guys think? he wants 1 12" sub, that will do good in a small enclosure, and ~500 RMS. This is not a WTB thread, i am just looking for input. thanks!
