Right there I saw a suggestion for Alicia Keys Unplugged. I do not like her music. However a good recording can win over a new fan or at least spark some interest. As posted in that thread a lot of good recent rock albums are ruined due to bad sound. I mean they try to sugarcoat it so much to get it to sound perfect. F**k sounding perfect. I want it to sound like I am right there at a live performance. When was the last time you paid for a ticket to sit with a small group of people in a recording studio to see a band? Also when you see a live gig there are no do-overs, 1000 guitar overdubs, one person playing 25324 different instruments on the same track, and there is a sense of space. Unless you are talking about someting from Sheffield Lab, Telarc, etc., it's going to sound like a studio album.
Now that my rant is over share your CDs. What live CDs have you heard that make you feel like you are right there at the concert? Here are some of my favorites:
Metallica -- Live Sh*t: Binge & Purge - Pardon the sloppy as hell bass drums
Sarah McLaghlan -- Mirrorball - Light rock chick music with killer lowend and detailed instruments
Alison Krauss -- Live - Wonderful intimate detailed bluegrass recording
DMB -- The Central Park Concert - Rockin' music that sounds great
Sevendust -- Ruble Fish (Acoustic) - Acoustic single I got that rocks hard even though it's acoustic
10,000 Maniacs -- Unplugged - Forgot this; listen to track 14 piano pans left to right depending on note played
