F#@k is this fixable?!

same thing happened to my lvl 4 except i broke 2 and they both broke right at the terminal...soldered in some wire but it only lasted bout a month so just just sold it as is for 115$ to spooney. its an easy fix i was just sick of messing with it.

The break in the lead is pretty close to the cone, it might end up being a tougher fix than people here are letting on. Either way, the lead tore for a reason, turn down your gains and/or decrease your enclosure size.

^ rite lead broke from over excursion. could of been from playing below tunning too.

if you can get the lead 1/2 from the cone cut it there solder on a new piece. then glue the connection to the back of the cone with e6000. you will want to remove the old leadwire from the spider first though. i would do this with all 4 leads because when you put power to them they wont handle it to good being already pulled at and streched...

are the nuway spiders soft yet? if so recone time...

I added some tinsel lead from another sub and it lasted about a day LOL. Sounded friggin great though. Got some new leadwire on the way from woofercooker and I'm gonna try to make the fix like splaudio suggest because after removing the dustcap to try and get right to the coil leads I found they were completely covered in some sort of rock hard adhesive. If this other fix doesn't work its recone time.

would that have been something the company did or something that the previous owner (MikeyF) did? it wasn't me ive never had the duscap off that thing

IMO once a tinsel lead gets torn apart it is best to get it reconed. That happened to my old 1st-gen Kicker L7 and the resoldered wire lasted for about a day like you before it got torn off again from excursion.

Plus you can have the rebuilders use better parts.

Definitely something DC did. Not a bad thing at all I mean you wouldn't want your coil leads banging around underneath that dustcap. The dustcap was way too perfect and much too big a pain in the *** to remove to have been removed previously. Gonna take one last shot at fixing the leads . If this doesn't last it's most likely off to PSI for a recone. I'd really like to have DC do it but I'm starting to notice a pattern of frayed/torn leads with these particular subs the more I look into it. The rest of the soft parts are in great shape as is the coil but I can't see spending the 115 for the dc recone only to end up back in the same place. PSI is a few bucks cheaper and I can get upgraded and stitched on leads.

In my experience with fixin torn leads it never seems to last... But as someone mentioned, solder the lead and make sure its a little long so you can glue it to the cone a little...and dont beat the hell out of it. lol //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
