Extending rux-c700 cable

I have the display piece for the Alpine PXA-700 and I'm considering extending the cable from the back of the "main" piece. I wanted to know if anyone has done this and been successful. Its 13 pin so I'm assuming it would be a process of extending 13 wires...

What does the connector look like? Sometimes you can find obscure cables as old computer cables of one type or another, or you might find them in an electronics shop that sells parts. You could of course cut the cable and extend manually as you mentioned but it might get tricky/messy. I'd do that as a last resort and try to find an extension first. Alpine may even sell an extension or longer cable themselves, so you could check with them (though it might be pricey that way).
