Experiment with clipping

****ING BULLSHIT...... i just did a 50hz 0db test tone, i played it and the voltage jumped even higher than the -6db. it hit 50v on the dmm thats like 2500W clip

WTFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF??????????????????????????????

no shit.. a 0db tone is louder... your gain needs to be turned down

my HPF is turned off so therefore there is no intelliQ setting on...

yes the speakers were disconnected... i tried it with them connected and discconnected, i dont think it matters i got te same voltage both ways.

MAYBE my Headunit is a piece of shit and is throwing clipped signals over 50% volume? could that be possible? for now im look for a nice AC VOLT guage that i can keep up front with me when i drive so i can watch for clipping and maybe buy the remote gain adjuster too.

......well IT IS a JVC ive learned not to expect much from those brands..... not that its saying much unless its an eclipse or an alpine i dont even consider it going it my car.... thats just MO

get an oscope and 0dB tones, find out where your HU preouts clip. Start with the front, then rear/mid, then sub. Make sure they all clip @ the same time. Also, lots of todays music is already recorded well pst the clipping range.

Now work your way through all of your proccessing the same way. Then @ the amp. Set your gains with -10dB tone for a 3:1 gain overlap. (step 4 of the JL tutorial mentions gain overlap;))

We use the 3:1 ratio because of the way our music is recorded. Songs aren't recorded @ 0dB throughout, there are peaks - where music could clip, but only for a thousandth of a second which really isn't even audibly unless you listen to your music @ full blast, and there valleys in between. The 3:1 gives you more AVERAGE power for music. Most SQ competitors use this method;)
