folders are your friend. my parents both have desktops like that and i don't understand how they live with it. all that's on my desktop are a couple folders named appropriately, like "music", "program shortcuts", "pictures"

ehh its dad's business, not mine. It doesnt really bother me. I either click on interent explorer or paintshop. thats about it lol.
