Ethanol E-85

From what I've read if the price of Ethanol is 28% less than the cost of regular then you break even, if its any less, then you start saving money. Like in Illinois, a lot of the prices are 38% less than regular unleaded. I'll see if I can find this map that showed me all the prices... Oh and out here Ethanol is about 18-20% lower so it costs a little more, but I think it will get lower as the price of gas goes up imo.

E-85 isnt worth it. You burn more than gasoline.

You DO lose power.

I work at a petrochemical laboratory and we run octane tests, and I can promise you, the E-85 isnt worth running.
You know I've heard that, they rate Ethanol as 105 octane technically, I wonder why you would lose HP.

Its a complicated explination, but its not just based on the octane rating, there's chemicals with octane ratings over 110, but dont do worth a crap in an engine.

Even if you didnt LOSE any hp....just the difference in how MUCH you burn isnt worth the swap. Say 1 tank of gasoline takes you 400 miles, 1 tank of E-85 wont take you nearly that far. MAYBE 325 to 340.

What I know of E-85 was told to me by the leading Octane Research guy, he trains more than HALF the US on octane testing and crap like that.

Go read a couple things here.

ive tried it once in my truck, got half the gas mileage and it was like 5 cents cheaper a gallong. i just dont see how we the consumers are supposed to just throw our money away on pollution control when the companies that make billions of dollars cant even do it. Fck that sht, id run it if it saved me money, otherwise they need to try again.

That's good to know, I'll read up on that.
