For people that dont' know this is a movie with jim carey but unlike his previous movies its not a "comedy". I rented it a few days ago and I would rank this movie up with his pet detective movies. For the simple fact the storyline was based on a interesting topic "Erasing the memories of a person that hurt you, like a ex girlfriend/boyfriend which prevents you from moving on in your life". Instead of using pills which is what we do at the present time you could have people actually come to your house and wipe the memories while you sleep without causing brain damage and no side effects(unlike pills prescribed for depression). The director made jim carey's character a shy book worm and the girl he fell in love with a wild blue haired women which they had great chemistry on the set. I really don't want to ruin the movie for anyone who hasn't seen it. I will tell you though if you don't like romantic type of movies which at points is kind of a downer but the great acting, storyline, and the ending was well worth the $5.00 at blockbuster. Not trying to start another 5 page debate like i usually do, but how many people on the forum believes that one day we might be able to do this? I know we had electroshock therapy which didn't work because it was inuman and fried the brain. Although if they could stop feeding the american sociecty so many pills for every problem they have in life it would be for the better. I mean they even prescribe pills to dogs now for depression, but i dont' want to go to far off topic. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/offtopic.gif.470a8b0541c72322a0037f48a8237473.gif

As Maynard says; "Give me one more medicated peaceful moment"

But to the topic at hand..........would you actually want to totally block that person out of your mind altogether. Pills generally just "tone you down" (or pick you up, whichever is needed), they don't wipe the slate clean and make you totally forget selected memories. I know that when I've been to places mentally that I didn't want to be, I'd rather found a way to push through than forget the person (memory, whatever) altogether. Sure, they're some memories of pain, and pain when you think of them, but that doesn't trump the memories of the good times that you had. And I wouldn't give those up for anything............

So what about **** victims? I understand your point about having good memories with your ex but for victims i doubt pills are enough just to "tone" down that memory.

Then would we let the ****** stay free and do away with the prison system for those "eraseable" crimes? I mean, hey, the victim doesn't remember it happening, and we can erase the rapists memory so that he doesn't remember doing it......so what harm has been done?

Sorry i guess i should have been more specific about it, first the victim would go through the court process and after that is done with this erase the victims memory of the ****. I mean even after the ****** is sent to jail you don't think the victim worry's about it happening again or being screwed up for life because of it? Why would you erase the rapists memory? I said nothing about doing that because if he wiped his memory from the **** then he wont' know why he was in jail and would go out and do it again, because he wouldn't know what put him in jail. I was trying to think logically about this but i guess we are on two different pages but hopefully i cleared everything up.

Why?? The victim no longer feels victimized......Prison is partially there so that the victim has some psychological vindication and feels that the person who did it is being punished. If they (the victim) have no recollection of the event, then why punish someone for it?? Erase both their memories, and essentially the event never took place, right? If a tree falls in the forest and no one is around, does it make a sound?? Same concept; Why punish someone for something the for all intents and purposes didn't ever happen?

I mean even after the ****** is sent to jail you don't think the victim worry's about it happening again or being screwed up for life because of it?
If you erase the victim's memory, then the event only exists in conversation. So if it's never brought up, and she has no recollection of it, why would she worry? SHe would be oblivious................

So don't put him in jail (remember, if you erase their memories then the events never took place) and clear his memory. He then won't remember the pleasure of doing it (since that's a "turn on" for them) and may not do it again because he doesn't realize that it's a turn on for him and may not feel the urge to do it again. And if he does do it again, so what, clear their memories and the event never happened. Victim no longer feels victimized or has any other psychological side effects, so it doesn't really matter much what actually happened.

Squek it doesn't happen often on here but i actually see your point being more logical then mine. Let me ask you something though do you believe that if you were to erase a rapists memory and the victims that the rapists wouldn't **** a different women? I am no physc major and haven't taken the class yet in college but from what i have read in the news is that a rapists rarely stops at just one ****. Instead they victimize more than one women. Which brings up the idea instead of just wiping the rapists memory why not go further and simply wipe the part of the brain that causes the rapists to do his crime. Interesting concept to say the least. What do you think squek?

The movie is awesome. Well directed, well edited, well acted, filled with excellent colour contrasts and the soundtrack was fitting. From a cinematic point of view it's a tremendous film.

One of the best I've seen this year.

OK, just watched it and, //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wowflash.gif.89a61f4caede63a11dac36e97d61323e.gif
