Escort/Beltronics Hardwire Question

Has anyone opened up the hardwire kit from Escort/Beltronics? Basically I want to use the LED output when it alerts to activate a relay and need ot know if the voltage is high enough to activate that relay.

I opened it up and it looks like even if I don't have enough voltage on the LED output I can go before the resistor to get +12V.

I don't have a meter on hand (and wont until Saturday) so I cant test it myself.

I doubt it, even tho it only takes what 150milliamps to activate a standard relay a led runs off even less...

A question for you however is are the escort smartwire cords compatible with a belltronics radar detector?

They should be as they are the same company but i need a exact answer..

but I was thinking I could get 12V off of the output of the transistor or the LED activation line

i have the bel pro rx65 with the direct wire smart plug. but i don't think it does wat you want i could be wrong. wat is it your trying to do?
I am going to hardwire it into my STI and I want it to activate a relay so I can basically use a "starter-kill" relay for the STI light on my dash to blink when the Radar Detector is going off.

But I think the output straight off of the cord is a constant twelve volts and the Transistor in the circuit board is used to flash the LED. But the transistor will not be strong enough to activate the relay. I guess I could use the relay schematic off of 12 volt to go from constant to momentary.

y not just extend wires and take the led and move it to behind the sti area?
The STI logo is always on when the car is running and it is pink to match the other logos so there is already a light back there and I wanted to use that as my LED
