eclipse cd8455 with sirius and ipod problems

well i bought an 8455 with the sirius adapter and ipod adapter. when i plug the both of them in and turn the radio to sirius, i get signals from the sirius radio as well as the ipod adapter. the head unit runs to the sirius unit first and then to the ipod adapter. i can't figure out how to get the signals straight. i also tried moving the small switches on the ipod adapter in all the different positions with still no luck. any ideas?
