I've decided that I need a new HU. I was planning on waiting it out until I could afford a double din Alpine with dvd and video display, but I cant wait. THe sound quality of the sony deck I have is crap. I have the setup you see in my sig.
I went to a local dealer and talked to him about beefing up my system. Told him I wasnt happy with the volume and midbass I was getting. I told what I had, and as soon as I mentioned the deck I had he shuttered. I know its a crap deck, can be had for like $160 at walmart. (it came with the car). Like I said, i know its nothing good, but I was wanting to wait it out for the deck I want. But I decided that its going to be at least 6 months before I part with the cash to get the deck I want. I have $300 to spare that I was actually thinking about using for additional components. but this board and my local shop told me I would definatley kill the sound stage if I added more speakers.
He says that if I get a better deck with better sq and higher voltage preouts, that my amps can give my speakers better quality power w/o distortion which should give me the performance gains i need. He listened to the car and said it already sounds **** good. He said if it got any "louder" that it would be at an uncomfortable listening level. and he said he would rather see me clean up the sound than make it louder, because cleaning it up would allow me to push the system harder because there would be less distortion, etc.
make sense?
My sony deck only has 1v preouts (front and sub/rear) and a single crossover point (120hz). All of my speakers are amped so I dont need power from the deck.
based on what im reading on these boards, I think this would be a good budget deck to fit the bill, and I get it for $280 shipped from a solid ebay dealer.
