Eclipse CD4000 or CD5000

Im trying to decide which deck to go with, the CD4000 or CD5000. Im not interested in any other ones. The main feature that seem to come with the 5000 are:

Upgrade from 5v preouts to 8v preouts

Sound shaping with memory stick

Neater looking display.

The thing is, is it worth the extra 200 bucks for this? Does it really make a difference in the sound quality of they system?

Any inputs would be appreciated. The last eclipse deck i had was built in 1998, and i loved it. But either of these is leaps and bounds better than that.

There is actually a pretty big difference in the displays as well. the motorzied face in the 5000 is a lot smoother than the 4000. Go to you local eclipse dealer and take a look at each and play with them. I do not know about all but Circuit City should have the 4000 on dislpay and if they are smart they will have the 5000 as well. I realize most people will not but from CC but go there and look at them. My store has every eclipse deck on display, including the cd7000 and the AVN 7000

But is there a noticeble improvement with the "sound shaping" along with the 8v preouts? Or is it lost as soon as you start driving ? (road noise)

the 5000 has 24bit dacs, vs the 1bit on the 4000...all around a better packaged deck

If you have the $ get the 5000. I have the 8445 which was replaced by the 5000. It is a great sounding piece.

I would go to Circuit City and see if they have both on display by now. Playing with both of them will probably tell you what you want to know.

the 5000 has 24bit dacs, vs the 1bit on the 4000...all around a better packaged deck

Not to mention the DAC is external for the 5000. That lets you store it away from the deck's amplifier for less noise interference.
