I've been spending too much time in these forums, and you've all inspired me to get a REAL system going. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif The UPS man came today, and once i have a few more components (subs, sub amp) i'll finally be able to install a system worthy of my car //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

Some system **** for all! And no the parliaments didn't come in the mail, they're just posing for size comparison //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

New pair of Kenwood XXV-04s components. These things are MONSTERS! I can't wait to hear them. Or to see how the shop plans on getting them into my doors! Hahaha

A mint pair of 2004 alpine type-r 6.5" components! I don't know who buys speakers and never uses them, but someone did, and i love 'em for it! Always thought the old models sounded better than the new ones!

My new XXV-01D headunit to replace the excellon 979 that someone borrowed from my car...... If it's 1/2 as good as the 979 i'll be happy.

Not too exciting, but essential, good old dynamat extreme! Got both door kits for under $20 shipped on ebay!

my.php

Also essential, but kinda exciting is the Stinger dual-amp wiring kit. Wiring kits are wiring kits, but this looks like a really nice kit, and has some cool blue lights! Woo!

And last (for now) but not least, the Kenwood XXv-02A i picked up to power the components. Pictures don't do the thing justice, it's a very sexy unit! So... I took a picture of the box //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

So, i'm psyched! I know it's nothing new for most of you, but this is the first time i've actually had my hands on high-end equipment, and i can't wait to get everything into the ride!

My bxi2006d should be here friday, and i'll order my type-x's as soon as my tax-return gets here, and then hopefully everything will pay off!!!!

Sorry for the long post, i'm just psyched and wanted to share my christmas 2.0 with everyone! Let me know what you think! go ahead, tell me those kenwoods are 'just kenwoods' i think they look great!

And just so everyone knows, NO i don't live with my parents //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif And no, i didn't rob a bank //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif I've just been working my A$$ off for the last 4 or 5 months, and eating like a peasant!! And social life? It's been on hold //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif But it's days like this that i know it'll be over soon, and it's starting to come together and look like it's gonna be worth it!

Anyways, i'm done, enjoy!

those parliaments are soo tempting //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif i just quit

nice equiptment btw

Thanks guys //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I didn't eat ONLY ramen the whole time, i guess eating ramen is more of an exaggeration. More realistically, i had to give up a lot of the day-to-day pleasures i usually spend my money on... fast food, booze, going out often, etc. etc.

I would consider ramen a food only in that it has caloric value, but only loosely. More of a hunger-suppression supplement //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I went with the subzone box because it was somewhat affordable (a little cheaper than the boxes at best buy) and i could only find good things about their boxes on any of the threads i read. Not to mention they already made the exact box i wanted, so there was no compromise. 2.0cf per sub, 30hz is EXACTLY what i wanted, and from the extensive reading i did on a couple different car audio forums, including this one, is the best box for the type-x for SQL.

As for install, i can't wait myself, i'll definitely put some pics up. With any luck, everything's gonna be pretty well consealed, except i don't think the kenwood comps are actually going to fit INTO the doors like i would've hoped, so they might be visible. I think i'm willing to make that small sacrifice, tho //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif The install's gonna have to wait another week or so until i get my subs. I want to have everything go in at once, one weekend, just tear ALL the factory speakers, wiring, etc. etc. garbage out, and put a complete fresh system in. I've always wanted to do that.

And if it makes you feel any better, those parliaments are empty in the pic. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif I just didn't have anything on-hand that was easy to scale things to. Plus i thought the comps looked pretty cool towering over a pack of smokes....

yeah, when i need to save money i cut the booze out. with going out and casual drinking, it really adds up. but nice equipment, good to see you're doing it right.

Update!

Well, i took the day off of work today, and took my car in at 8am for what was scheduled to be an 8 hour install. Long story short, after 14 hours of work, by closing time tonight, a two man team was only able to install my head unit, my two front components, and make me an amp board/false floor to mount all of my amps and crossovers and hardware.

Turns out the job was much more work than expected. Rather than making a few 3/4" MDF spacers, the shop had to make completely custom door pods for each of the kenwood speakers, which look great, btw. They did a great job, with MDF, wrapped in tan leather, matches the door great, and looks very proffessional so far.

The power wires, rca's and all of the speaker wires are run, but the rear doors are going to need custom pods as well, not due to the mounting depth or width of the type-r's, but because of the extra width of the magnet, which wont fit in between the window regular, and the side of the door panel, which the shop isn't legally allowed to cut into for safety regulations, so the audi spent the night at the shop, and i walked 4.5 miles to a buddy of mine's house who was having a party.

Anyways, the work's looking great so far, i got to go to a party with no car and have a few brews, and the work on the rear doors and tuning should be done sometime tomorrow afternoon.

I'd be disappointed, but the work's really looking great, and i'm definitely appreciative of the time and effort going into the car, and the fact that the shop feels bad about underquoting me, and is actually sticking to their orignal parts and labor quote of $730, with the minor addition of actual raw supplies needed for the door pods, which i feel is pretty reasonable.

Anyways, i'll have pics tomorrow once i get home. The install did cost a bit more than expected, so i'll having nothing but time to take pictures this week, since i have no money left to do anything else //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Still worth it, BTW!
