Dumb Homeowner N00B question...

I've pretty much just got settled into my new home and here is a very stupid question.

At my parents house, we had a mailbox near the street, where if you had outgoing mail, you would raise the flag and the mailman would know to take mail from you.

At my new house, all of the mailboxes are on the house and none of them have flags....How will the mailman know I have outgoing mail????

Dumb question.....but I need to know lol

I really hope that isn't my only option...that was one thing I was happy about buying a house for as opposed to my apartment!!

where about in detroit area? at my parents house in westland, they just put it out on the porch next to our front door, and the mailman just picks it up...

stand the mail upright so it sticks out of the box

Just bought a home in Allen Park

I know but as it stands right now, the mailman is not an everyday visitor to my house since I am still in the middle of transferring all of my mail here...

he should still walk past your house, next time you see him walk by, just ask him. or tell him to just keep a lookout for outgoing mail and tell him where you'll put it. problem solved.

That or clothespin/paperclip it to the outside. Thats what they do in FL.

my house is the same with no flag just a drop slot on front porch. i just drop it off at post office or find something like denalilvr pictured.

Hmmm all of the houses in teh neighborhoods i lived in had door slots or mailboxes on or near the door.

i have talked to the ups and mailwoman though so that they know when i get a package to put it inside my front porch door since i do leave it unlocked. that way its out of site but someone could still snag it i guess.

Like said earlier...turn it and stick it out mailbox...that's what we do here.
