Dont think he knows what he's talking about....

He's a moron....I opened it up and it's a D2, not a D4.
as for the wiring...the positive of one coil and the negative of the other are wired to the pos and neg's at the back of the enclosure. The neg of one coil is wired directly to the pos of the other... which i believe makes it wired in series?
Didn't read this until I posted. That's wired at 4 ohms, maybe that's what he was talking about. You'll get 150w out of your amp

yup, that's series wiring so 4ohms. Easy way to remember is a dvc can either be 2x the rating of each coil (wired in series, so in a line) or 1/2 wired in parralel (wired separately). It make sense when you think about it that way, at least for me it did.
Thanks this n helped a lot. And i realize it's not going to get loud...it's more or less temporary until i upgrade the amp. But surely it will be loud enough to be heard over my comps and 6x9s (which are run off the head unit for now)? Btw this is a SQ (budget) setup, i listen to mostly old school hip hop and rock. I dont need this to blast Gucci Mane and shake every car around me (at least not until i get the money to do so...)

Any one wanna give me feedback on my budget setup up to this point? I think it's gonna be pretty solid considering I will have paid like $250 for the whole deal (i installed myself)

I've got:

Pioneer DEH-P6800mp HU

Rockford Fosgate Fanatic P series components in front (5.25in mids)

Alpine SPS690a 6x9's in the rear deck

Image Dynamics IDQ10 v2

Kenwood KAC5204 amp

KnuKonceptz 8 gauge wiring kit

When I upgrade my amp how much RMS should I feed this sub? more than the rated 250w? I need to amp the fronts so I was thinking of getting a 4 channel amp with like 100W RMS x 4 and bridging 2 chans for the sub and running the other 2 for fronts...Yes? No?

I know of people running nearly 500w to the IDQ subs, you just have to set the gains with an oscilloscope and make sure it's getting clean power. And the 4 channel idea is good.

thanks, but see my above post. I took it out of the box and it's a 2 Ohm rather than 4 ohm and it's wired in series....making it 4 ohm load? Does that mean i can get a good 150w RMS from my amp if i wire it in bridged at 4 ohm?
Yes, it will work and is matched for the amp. FIRE IT UP AND GIVE IT A LISTEN

If you have any doubt about the wired impedance of the sub drive over to the nearest shop and ask if they will measure the resistance across your enclosure terminals. The DC resistance measured with a DMM or ohmmeter should be just under 4 ohms - around 3.5-ish.

Ok just got it all wired up (first install - whoo!!) and it sounds solid. Bass isnt real loud but loud enough for now. I do have to get the fronts amped and more power for the sub.

One question...since this amp is weak compared to the sub is it a bad idea to have the gain up on MAX? The amp seems to get warm..but it is a cheap amp and im gonna replace it anyway.

Also the sub humms when the power is on but theres no music playing....could this be because of a bad ground or waht?

i always keep eq level (cut rather than boost) and when i set the gain i turned off all bass boosting ect. I still wasnt happy with how loud the sub was so i needed to keep turning the gain up. i can;t max out my head unit volume or get past like 80% without it distorting the fronts (they;re driven by the heead unit and im still getting money for an amp for those) so my amp gain is like all the way up... should i avoid using bass boost? Im aware that it'd be sending a clipped signal to the sub and i dont wanna damage my sub. i really just need a good amp...gahh

The gain on your amp is not a volume control and should not be used to make the system louder. ← Read that over and over until it sinks in. ;-)

Not trying to insult you but it is critical that you don't use the gain as a volume control. Gain is there to match the amplifier's input to the head unit's output. If it is set correctly and that setting happens to be at 1/8 of a turn, then that is as loud as you can safely play that woofer on that amplifier... period.

It is okay to use bass boost to get a bit more output but only set it to half way at max and do that before setting the gains on your amp. Proper gain setting is the difference between a system that will last for years and repeatedly burning up speakers and amplifiers.

If you don't know how to do it, I can help you through it or, if we knew where you were, one of us might live nearby and be willing to set it for you.
