Does amp go with sub?

Hi,

Here is what I have:

Amp = Kicker ZX400.1 4ohm mono = 200 x 1, 2ohm mono = 400 x 1

Speaker = Kicker CVR10 2ohm per coil 400 RMS (dual)

When I purchased these, I thought amp 2ohm 400 x 1 = speaker 2ohm @ 400, these should then match. I then read that the both coils must be connected to a source of amplification. When in parallel, 1ohm load is generated and when in series a 4ohm load is produced. None of these speaker setups produce the 2ohm that I was wanting so the amps match the speaker.

What would be the best configuration? If I wired the speakers to 1ohm what effect would the amp have since it only states 4 ohm and 2 ohm mono? I could do the 4ohm speaker setup and then the amp will put out 200 RMS at 4ohm but I worry that the speaker would be under powered.

Any help or recommendations would be appreciated.

I wouldn't run that amp at 1 ohm, probably wouldnt like it too much. Wire it to 4 ohms, underpowering a sub doesn't hurt it, just doesn't put it to its full potential.

This is a really crappy situation, and it ***** when this type of thing happens. You've learned an important lesson here, though; You should never buy equipment without fully understanding it's capabilities.

Unfortunately, that CVR 10" won't perform anywhere near it's capabilities on 200 watts.

Can you return the sub? Your amp would be perfect for a 4 ohm dvc CVR or a pair of Comp 07C104's...

You are correct, I learned a lesson. But that only makes me smarter than before, less money, but smarter. I am returning the sub and getting the dual 4ohm and wiring it to 2ohm. Thank you.
